Vex Robotics

IMG_9282.JPG

For all 4 years of high school I participated in VEX Robotics. There was a VEX Robotics club and competition, as well as competition in SkillsUSA. In the club myself and 3 others created several iterations of different drive trains (wheels, mecanum wheels, tank treads), object manipulation (bucket loaders, hoppers, claws) and other intermediary mechanisms (scissor lift, arm lifts, high rpm launchers). We then had to program in a c++ type of environment for the controller and autonomous time at the start of the match. We also had to create an engineering notebook which was part of the competition. The main competition being an elimination style tournament of teams of 2.
SkillsUSA was very structured and there were many tasks beyond the timed trial. It was set up as an engineering challenge with a robot build, a minute of autonomous driving, drawings or renderings of robot, bill of materials, and an engineering notebook. One year my partner and myself made it to the national competition.
